Mexico and Canada started this Monday ‘High-level economic dialogue’‘ allowing to strengthen economic, innovation and technological cooperation for the benefit of the two countries, aiming to be more resilient in the international arena.
During a virtual meeting between the Minister of Economy Tatiana Clouthier and the Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development of Canada, Mary Ng, Clouthier emphasized that Canada is a vital partner in advancing innovation and technology.a, as well as creating new business opportunities and joint cooperation that accelerate the inclusion of entrepreneurs and other vulnerable sectors of society.
“We have agreed to frame this collaboration in three pillars, so that we can strengthen our competitive advantagea, support equitable growth and bilateral trade and strengthen the business and investment environment,” said the secretary.
During his presentation, he emphasized that this dialogue between Mexico and Canada will strengthen the cooperation as trading partners that they have had for 78 years.
With an accumulated foreign investment from March 2022 dand 48 thousand 900 million dollarsCanada is the third largest source of foreign direct investment in Mexico, according to figures from the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
For her part, Minister Mary Ng stressed that Canada and Mexico are redoubled their efforts to ensure that “the post-pandemic economic recovery benefits everyone”, and stressed that trade opportunities between the two countries should be ambitious, inclusive and sustainable, without losing reconciliation efforts .
“A deep and meaningful collaboration is very important for us to take on new challenges. The world trade landscape is showing unprecedented changes brought about by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has led to very high prices for essential commodities on our continent,” said Mary Ng.
In this sense, the Canadian minister assured that the high-level economic dialogue is vital to achieve the resilience of both countries.
