Mass Effect returned in 2021 with a remastering of the first three video games. BioWare has adapted the titles to the current systems (now from the previous generation), but for this improved version they used the same old engine, Unreal Engine 3. Now, the youtuber Leo Torres recreated the Omega space station from Mass Effect 3, but with Unreal Engine 5. The impressive results, in the video below these lines.
“It’s not based on any sequence in the game itself,” said Torres, noting that he wanted to capture the atmosphere of Omega. “It has served as a possibility to test the official, stable and latest version of UE5, because I was curious to see how the gameplay elements would work in a complex and dynamic world. So far it seems pretty solid.”
As he explains, this test was conducted on a graphics card RTX 3060, with the gameplay areas running at 60 FPS in high quality and at 1080 P. Meanwhile, the cinematic parts are rendered in 4K resolution. Use Nanit and LumenEpic Games’ new graphics engine technologies.
The next Mass Effect will use Unreal Engine
With Mass Effect Andromeda, BioWare followed the same path as it did with Dragon Age: Inquisition. The Electronic Arts studio used Frostbite, EA DICE’s graphics engine. However, everything seems to indicate that Canadians will return to Unreal Engine in the next chapter of their science fiction saga. At least that’s what they suggest in a job offerin which they asked developers with experience in Unreal Engine 4 and 5.
BioWare is currently working on both the new Mass Effect and the highly anticipated new installment of Dragon Age. Neither has a release date yet. No confirmed platforms, though it’s expected to be available on PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC consoles. Anthem, for its part, stopped developing after they decided to cancel version 2.0, which will never see the light of day.
