The Canadian subsidiary of RevoluGroup, a money transfer company, has a Edition in which they report that they have received permission from the US Treasury Department to make transfers to Cuba.
The company claims to have “taken special precautions with regard to Cuba” and communicated with the Treasury Department through its US subsidiary on November 1, 2021, to assure it that “remittances sent via RevoluSEND cannot support centralized receiving scenarios from the Cuban Government, including entities on the Cuban Restricted List,” which is responding to the draconian restrictions on remittances to Cuba and other economic blockade measures imposed by the Trump administration and enforced by the Biden administration.
According to the release, “A formal written response was received from the Treasury Department on December 1, 2021. As the Company’s exclusive remittance mechanism fully complies with the authorizations under 31 CFR § 515.572 and all other provisions of the Regulations Control of Cuban Assets (CACR ), these transactions are deemed to be within the scope of permitted transactions”
The company says it has started sending money to Cuba through RevoluSEND and will be able to do so in the future from the United States, which will be coordinated from its subsidiary RevoluGROUP USA Inc. based in Miami, FL.
The US authorities have not confirmed this.
The United States government said on November 5 last year that the ban on sending money transfers to Cuba would remain in effect for even longer, impeding the White House’s right to help their loved ones living in the country.
A White House official then told media outlets that President Joe Biden’s administration continued to study how to ensure the money sent to Cuba was not in the government’s favour.
The Western Union company, which was the main processor of money transfers to Cuba until the White House banned its activities, charged its users 5% for the transmission (of which Cuba received only 1% for operating costs). Some sources point out that RevoluGropu shipments can cost the sender much more.
So the US banned Western Union money transfers to #Cubawho charged about $5 per 100 shipped, to apparently authorize formulas that charge the sender up to $30 per 100.
