The American Crystal Dunn (Portland Thorns) and the Canadian Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich) have been voted the best players of 2021 in Concacaf.
Dunn and Davies were elected under a new voting system, which included coaches and players from the confederation’s affiliates, as well as representatives of the media and fans.
In the female category, the other nominees were Canadians Jessie Fleming (Chelsea) and Stephanie Labbe (PSG) and Christine Sinclair (Portland Thorns), American Lindsey Horan (Lyon) and Mexican Stephany Mayor (Tigres UANL); and among the men, Jamaican Michail Antonio (West Ham), Canadian Jonathan David (Lille), Mexican Hirving Lozano (Naples) and Americans Weston McKennie (Juventus) and Christian Pulisic (Chelsea) also competed for the prize.
Dunn was key to taking the bronze medal at the Tokyo Games with the United States team. She started in all six games, played 554 minutes and was named in the top eleven of the tournament.
He was also a starter in victory against Canada and Brazil in the prestigious SheBelieves Cup tournament and won the NWSL Challenge Cup with the Portland Thorns, making twelve starts in the fifteen games he played.
Davies finished another wonderful year with Germany’s Bayern Munich, with whom he won his third Bundesliga, and was the player to play the most games in the 2021 days of the Concacaf qualifying stage for the Qatar World Cup, which finished at the led the Canadian team to return to a universal final 36 years later.
